POLITICAL CARTOONIST IN PRISON SUED AGAIN
FOR DRAWING ERDOGAN

           Bariş Inan, a political cartoonist whose works have been published in the GUNDEM newspaper and our        magazine HOMUR, and who has been serving an aggravated life imprisonment in the Izmit-Kandira F-type Prison, has been sued for drawing the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as a baby in diapers. His trial will be heard on January 31- 2017, Tuesday, at the criminal court of first instance in Izmit-Kandira. Political powers behind this legal/judicial? action seem to be attempting to break new ground by suing a person that is already serving an aggravated life imprisoment sentence, who they have never considered to release at all. We strongly believe that this new lawsuit is an attack on the world of caricature, as well as on free speech and communication, and thus feel it is our duty to announce it to the public.

Se convoca la Bienal de Gábrovo 2017

The Museum House of Humour and Satire in Gabrovo, Bulgaria launches a campaign for registration of entries for the 23^rd International Biennial of Humour and Satire in Art that will open on 19^th May 2017. The works selected by the jury will be on display at the Museum from 19^th May until 30^th September 2017.

The twenty-third edition of the Biennial is comprised of a competition and a curated exhibition. The competition is held in two sections – cartoons (in three categories) and contemporary art. The cartoons competition section includes the following categories: cartoons (original works signed by the artists and digital works, up to A3 size); animated cartoons (gif and flash); printed cartoon publications (albums, catalogues, artists’ books).

The theme of the competition is Laughing in the Face of.... fear, crisis, adversity, the status quo – artists are invited to complete the phrase and make a statement by addressing the present day and its social, economic, political, cultural and daily problems and challenges.

In order to apply artists complete an online entry-form on the Biennial website biennial.humorhouse.bg, where the conditions of entry and additional information are published. The closing date for application and sending works online is 12^thMarch 2017, midnight Bulgarian time (GTM+2). The selection of the works is made online by an international jury. The artists with selected works send the originals by post within the indicated deadline.

The Biennial website is also accessible via www.humorhouse.bg, the official website of the House of Humour and Satire.

As organizers of the Biennial we kindly request you to assist us in spreading this call of entry among your members, as well as to publish it on the website of your organization, if possible.

We look forward to receiving imaginative works inspired by the theme.

Pessoa com fino sentido de humor, não pertencesse ela a esta família devota do humor irreverente e sano, cultivando a inteligência da filosofia humorística em todas os seus actos da vida, era uma profunda apaixonada do humor gráfico. 1. SATYRYKON 2017 International Exhibition is an open competition.

2. The objects of the competition are drawings, graphics and other works of fine arts and photography created with the use of optional techniques, being originals, completed within the recent two years (2016-2017), and qualified by artists to section:

Prizes

1. Works for the competition will be qualified by the international Jury.
2. The Jury will award the following prizes:

• GRAND PRIX SATYRYKON 2017 - pure gold key and purse amounting to 8,000 PLN
•   2 gold medals and purses amounting to 6.000 PLN
•   2 silver medals and purses amounting to 5.500 PLN
•   2 bronze medals and purses amounting to 5.000 PLN
•   and 4 special prizes amounting to 4.000 PLN each
•  Director of Legnica Culture Centre for a photography work in amount of 4,000 PLN award
•  Mayor of Legnica award in amount of 4.000 PLN

The organisers are expecting extra awards for laureates: for Author of THE BEST DEBUT and Author of THE STUDENT DEBUT to be accompanied by a solo exhibition at the Satyrykon Gallery within the programme of SATYRYKON 2017 events.

Jury has the right of final distribution of the statutory prizes, change of their amount, or non – awarding them or non – awarding the GRAND PRIX SATYRYKON. Jury’s decisions are final.

AWARDS ARE SUBJECT TO TAXATION ACCORDING TO THE CURRENT REGULATIONS. The condition to pay the authors is their arrival for the opening of the exhibition and collection of their awards by December 15, 2017, or it can be transferred into a bank account in a currency specified by the author.

Participants’ privileges

1. Authors of work qualified to the exhibition are given a presentation copy of the exhibition catalogue.
2. Organisers provide competition prize-winners with gratuitous participation in the SATYRYKON 2017 event on June 15-18, 2017.
3. Works sent to the exhibitions will be exhibited in the country and abroad after the main exhibition, and then will be returned to their authors by the end of 2018.

Final provisions

Cualquier persona mayor de 18 años puede participar en

esta competición internacional. Cada participante se compromete a

nacido en Peer (Grote-Brogel). Nos preguntamos qué

que se vería en el mundo de hoy.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

(KYRENIA – CYPRUS)

1.    The contest is open to all amateur or professional cartoonist or any one who could submit a cartoon regardless individual's race, gender, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, age, or other protected characteristic.

2.    Themes: Olive, Olive and Time, Olive and History, Olive and Mythology, Olive and Technology, Olive and Cyprus, Olive and Life, Olive and Peace, Olive and Conflict, Olive and War, Olive and Health, Olive and Women, Olive and Men, Olive and Children, Olive Oil, Olive Branch, Olive Tree, Benefits of Olive, Olive and Olive Mill/Press, Banning of Uprooting, Burning and Cutting Down Olive Trees and so forth.

3.    All Submissions must be in the form of cartoon. Any painting or illustrations will not be accepted and will be disqualified. Cartoons must be without words

4.    All submissions must be originals. Submission dimensions: A4 or A3 in any color or black and white. Each entrant must provide name and surname, address, phone number including country code, and email address on the back of the submission; each entrant should also provide short background and a photo (optional) on a separate A4.

5.    Submission of materials, which has previously been submitted and or presented and or published elsewhere, is welcomed providing copyright is not infringed, however previously any award wining material cannot be submitted.

6.    All work submitted for evaluation by the International Selection Committee and work of finalist will be published at official web page of the competition. In addition submissions will be reviewed and evaluated for plagiarism by international associations. If Plagiarism detected and or any previously award wining material submitted, submissions will be canceled and the next eligible entry will be considered for the prize.

7.    Entrants could submit more than one work, however no more than one award will be awarded to participants.

8.    All submission must be received by APRIL 30, 2017 at the address provided below.

9.    All submission, awarded or not, will be kept and archived by Cypriot – Turkish Cartoonist Association at the newly established “International Cyprus Cartoon Museum.”

10. All prize winner submissions and selected works by the Steering Committee will be published in a booklet and displayed at the City Center by the Kyrenia Municipality building during the “16. International Olive Festival 2017.”

11. The results of the competition will be published thru media and prizing winning entrants will be informed by contact information provided.

12. Kyrenia Municipality will provide travel and boarding expenses for three prize winners and six special prizewinners as stated in the terms and conditions of the competition. The prize-winning cartoonist must respond to the prize ceremony invitation within 10 days. The responses outside of 10 days are not considered.

13. The Kyrenia Municipality and Cypriot – Turkish Cartoonist Association will have the publishing rights to publish or print, in any media or format, any or all submissions.

14. All persons entering the competition agree that the rules of the competition as set out in these terms and conditions are binding on them. And all submissions could be published and printed by the Kyrenia Municipality and Cypriot – Turkish Cartoonist Association as set out in these terms and conditions without any future compensation.
